color songs (2019)

In a tonal departure from previous compositional efforts, the color songs are a set of three vignettes written for solo piano and voice in a pop idiom. Over three movements, the color songs depict the arc of a souring romance, processing the emotions between heartbreak and resolve, all featuring richly layered textures from the piano accompaniment. This piece was originally premiered live by the composer in the fall of 2019, and later revised / reworked as an electronics-based work in the spring of 2021 (see dorm room demos).
