what is rollerskatingjams?

Welcome to rollerskatingjams.

In the age of soulless Gen-AI DJs and social media algorithms picking your brain for ad-space, the art of discovery feels a bit listless. This blog serves as a response to that issue; a testing ground of sorts to better engage with music, media, and otherwise.

I am always trying to find new sounds, styles, and artists – one of my favorite ways to engage in this passion is to make playlists.
Over the last handful of years, I’ve established a series of playlists called MIX 106 (affectionately named after Cleveland’s adult alternative / greatest hits station of my childhood). My ultimate goal is to have these playlists exist in a collaborative, open forum. Almost like a sonic scrapbook, a virtual mixtape, or an asynchronous radio broadcast!

The MIX 106 playlists are inherently broad by design, and as a result often contradictory. They will jump from genre to genre, artist to artist, decade to decade, Kanto to Johto. Some mixes are reflections of certain periods in my life, while others may share an overarching concept. These posts will occur periodically as I accumulate new listening lists.

In addition to the MIX 106 playlists, rollerskatingjams will feature articles about new music, artists, genres, and local events. Interviews, reviews, subscriber engagement, phenomena … the possibilities are endless!

As of this post, all 33 MIX 106 playlists are available via my Apple Music and Spotify streaming profiles. Want a quicker shortcut? Click here for the linktree URL to find a mix and start listening.
